Here’s why you should think before clicking on ‘Next episode’

Guilty of binge watching? Trust us, you’re not alone. Most of us spend the majority of our waking hours staring at a digital screen. Studies suggest that 60% OF PEOPLE SPEND MORE THAN 6 HOURS a day in front of a digital device. However, that does not mean you have no cause for concern.

The evolution in digital screen technology has advanced dramatically over the years, and many of today’s electronic devices use LED back-light technology to help enhance screen brightness and clarity. These LEDs emit very strong blue light waves.

Because of their increasing popularity, we are gradually being exposed to more sources of blue light. Spending just two consecutive hours on a digital device can cause eyestrain and fatigue.

Digital eyestrain is a medical issue with serious symptoms that can affect learning and work productivity. Symptoms of digital eyestrain, include blurry vision, dry and irritated eyes, headaches, neck and back pain.

Harvard researchers have linked working the night shift and exposure to blue light emitted by gadgets, to several types of cancer (breast, prostate) diabetes, heart disease, obesity and an increased risk for depression.

That’s right. If you’re concerned about your vision now as much as we are – worry not! Everyone needs to take precautions against the effects of blue light.
